There are two types of boundaries that need to be established for a successful business carbon footprint calculation:
- Organisational: These boundaries determine the operations owned or controlled by the reporting company. They are dependent on the consolidation approach taken – equity or control.
- Operational: Boundaries that determine the core direct and indirect emissions associated with operations owned or controlled by the reporting company. This allows a company to establish which operations and sources cause direct and indirect emissions, and to decide which other indirect emissions to include that are a consequence of its operations.
